National Pan-Hellenic Council Pittsburgh Chapter 2025 Scholarship Application
We are pleased to invite all eligible students in Allegheny County to apply for this scholarship.
PURPOSE: To provide two (2) $1,000 scholarships to deserving area young adults for educational use in Spring or Fall 2026. Scholarships are awarded based on scholarship, contributions to school and/or community, and essay submission.
The deadline for submission is Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Applications must be received by the deadline. No late applications will be considered.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Applicant must reside in Allegheny County.
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, have completed a GED, diploma, or enrolled in a post-secondary institution on a full-time basis. An eligible institution may include technical/trade schools, two-year programs, and specialized training schools.
- Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a minimum passing GED score of 620.
- Applicant must demonstrate positive-impact involvement as evidenced through community involvement, success in education, and evidenced through letters of recommendation.
ESSAY PROMPT:
In 500 words or less, describe how you have contributed to the betterment of your community. What inspired you to get involved, and what impact has your service had on others and on you personally?
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Each essay will be subjectively evaluated for content and quality by an impartial committee of NPHC members.
Each essay will also be objectively evaluated to ensure the submission is:
- 500 words or less.
- On topic and appropriately responds to the query and/or concept presented in the prompt as written.
- Sentence Craft and Style: Demonstrates excellent use of language; precisely chosen words, complex and varied sentence structure; appropriate tone and style.
- Mechanics: (Grammar and spelling) is almost entirely free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
Finalists must provide supporting documents to validate their intent to enroll or continue their course of study in a post-secondary institution or other eligible institution for Spring or Fall 2026. Proof of course enrollment, letter(s) of acceptance, or other proof of pending admissions application(s) are acceptable.
